Scottish Network for Families Affected by Drugs

Who we are

The Scottish Network for Families Affected by Drugs (SNFAD) was established in May 2003 as a result of families and family support groups from across Scotland expressing their desire to come together as a united force to raise awareness of the difficulties families face when living with or supporting a drug user.

SNFAD is a charity that is managed by a key number of family representatives from all over Scotland, some of whom have been involved in organisations that support families of substance users.

SNFAD exists to support families across Scotland that are affected by drug misuse and to help and support those agencies that in turn represent and support such families. These families and family support groups feel isolated and forgotten, SNFAD aims to reduce this isolation and stigma by:-

  • Representing them at local and national level, raising awareness of the issues associated with drug misuse;

  • Campaigning at a national level on their behalf;

  • Providing information programmes to the public through programmes of education of the public, and seminars and training events for families and family support groups;

  • Providing constant access to support through the National Helpline service;

  • Creating stronger, more able and sustainable systems of support for these families. Any family affected by drug misuse should have access to the same quality support wherever they may live in Scotland.
